Due to weather conditions, the 2016 Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race has been canceled.
The race, which covers 200 miles through the Caribou Hills on the central and southern Kenai Peninsula, had been scheduled to start Jan. 30. It is the third consecutive year that organizers have had to cancel the event.
In a Tuesday evening Facebook post announcing the cancellation, race director and T-200 president Tami Murray wrote that organizers looked at a number of options, but “we don’t have enough snow and have way to much open water.”
