Troopers have stopped actively searching for an Anchorage man who’s been missing since Sept. 22.
In an Alaska State Troopers dispatch, troopers wrote they have called off their search for Kevin Mitchell, 38, since no other clues have been found since his vehicle was identified on a trail near mile 87 of the Seward Highway on Sept. 26.
“Due to not finding additional signs of Mitchell, the worsening environmental conditions and as not to put responding searchers at risk of injury, AST is suspending the active search pending new leads,” troopers wrote, adding that volunteer support has been “extraordinary.”
More than 100 people have given their time to searching for Mitchell, according to the dispatch. The Facebook group dedicated to the search effort, “Find Kevin Mitchell,” is still active.
