Alaskans will need to enroll in the Alaska State Troopers’ new statewide alert system to stay up to date on trooper operations in their area. That’s per the Alaska Department of Public Safety, which announced Tuesday it will be switching to a new alerting platform on July 1.
The alert system currently used by troopers, called Nixle, will end on June 30 as the new system comes online, the department said Tuesday. Under the new system, subscribers can choose to have alerts transmitted via email or SMS. In addition to subscribing to trooper alerts by region, including the Kenai Peninsula, users can also elect to receive statewide missing persons bulletins.
“This new system will provide alerts related to significant law enforcement activity in an area, evacuation information, missing persons bulletins, suspect information, and other timely alerts,” the department said in Tuesday’s release.
Alaskans who want to receive alerts through the new system, including Alaskans already subscribed to Nixle, must sign up under the new system to receive alerts after July 1. Alaskans can subscribe to alerts at https://alerts.dps.alaska.gov/subscribe.
