Two Soldotna men have applied to take over the last year remaining on the term for Seat F on the city’s council.
New mayor Pete Sprague resigned from the seat when he was elected in October.
The council will consider Dan Nelson and Tim Cashman, Jr., applications during its Tuesday Nov. 10 meeting.
Nelson, a Planning and Zoning commission member is a borough employee. Cashman is a small business owner who also deals in the residential rental market. Both have lived and worked in Soldotna for more than two decades.
Nelson wrote in his application that he believes the city’s biggest challenges will be the loss of grocery tax revenue, the annexation study and the regulatory stance it will take on marijuana businesses within city limits. Cashman wrote that he believed the city is facing four challenges — decreasing revenues, home rule designation, annexation and marijuana regulations.
The term will end on Oct. 16, 2016.
