Crews from the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Central Emergency Services responded to a burning camping trailer on Cardwell Road, between Soldotna and Kasilof, on Sunday at 2:25 p.m, according to CES Captain Terry Bookey. The fire was extinguished, and two bodies were found in the trailer’s remains.
Bookey said his agency is investigating the cause of the fire, which presently remains undetermined. Bookey said no other people were present at the scene other than the firefighters and the two deceased inside the trailer.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the identities of the two bodies and their causes of death, and the Alaska State Troopers will release the information once it becomes available, said trooper spokesperson Megan Peters.
“With fire-related deaths, it’s not unusual for it to take longer or shorter, depending on the state of the bodies,” Peters said.
