One person was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital and another flown to Anchorage after a pickup truck and semitrailer collided on the Kenai Spur Highway.
The accident happened at about 2:40 p.m. and traffic has been restricted to one lane for nearly two hours near mile 17 of the highway at its intersection with Treasure Chest Avenue.
Debris is strewn on the roadway and the truck rests in a ditch on the northbound side of the road. The semitrailer is parked along the same side of the road several hundred yards north.
Nikiski Fire Department Public Information Officer Bud Sexton said the person who was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital was transported with non-lifethreatening injuries. However, he is unsure of the status of the juvenile who was flown to Anchorage. Both were riding in the pickup truck at the time of the accident.
Sexton said traffic will continue to be restricted as Alaska State Troopers investigate the incident.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
