A Thursday collision between a truck and an RV near the Russian River Ferry shut down both lanes of the Sterling Highway for multiple hours and sent two people to the hospital. The crash occurred at Milepost 55.5 of the Sterling Highway, near the ferry landing.
Cooper Landing Emergency Services first reported the crash just before 1 p.m. Thursday in a post shared to social media that asked motorists to avoid the area and said one person was entrapped. The agency reported around 1:30 p.m. that the trapped individual had been extricated.
Cooper Landing Emergency Services told the Clarion on Thursday that two patients were transported from the scene: one to Anchorage by a Guardian Flight and another to Central Peninsula Hospital.
The agency reported that there were wreckers en route to the scene from Soldotna to remove the RV and the truck, but had an unknown estimated time of arrival.
Traffic had begun to move by around 5:30 p.m. Thursday night.
More information about the collision can be found in updates shared to the Cooper Landing Emergency Services’ Facebook page.
