The deadline to register to vote in the Oct. 5 municipal election is this Sunday. Seats are open on the Kenai, Soldotna, Seward and Homer city councils, as well as on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly and on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education. Most of those races are contested.
In Kenai and Soldotna, people are eligible to vote if they’re a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age or older, has registered with the State of Alaska, has been a resident of their respective city for at least 30 days before the election, is not registered to vote in another jurisdiction and is not disqualified under Article V of the Alaska Constitution.
People should update their voter registration if their name has changed, if they’ve moved, received a new address or if they believe an error has been made regarding their precinct placement.
People can register to vote or check their voter registration at voterregistration.alaska.gov.
