The National Weather Service issued another winter weather advisory for the western Kenai Peninsula on Thursday, citing hazardous conditions due to increased snowfall and heavy wind gusts.
The worst conditions on Thursday were expected to be between Nikiski and Anchor Point, the NWS said, and total snow accumulation was estimated to be between 3 inches to 6 inches locally, with winds of up to 30 miles per hour.
Drivers were advised of reduced visibility to one half mile or less at times, and slippery roads.
According to the NWS seven-day forecast, winter weather conditions are expected for the next few days.
On Friday afternoon there is a 40% to 50% chance of snow in Kenai with a high of 30 degrees, and east winds between 5 miles per hour and 10 miles per hour. There is a 50% to 80% chance of snow on Saturday, with increased wind speeds between 15 miles per hour and 30 miles per hour and a high of 30 degrees. On Sunday, there’s about an 80% chance of snow with a high of 32 degrees.
