The Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, also known as the Whittier Tunnel, is closed until further notice due to a rock fall hazard inside the tunnel, according to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. The tunnel was closed at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
According to a DOT press release, personnel have removed the fallen rock and are currently evaluating the condition of existing rock inside the tunnel.

The 2.5-mile tunnel connects Whittier with Portage and the Seward Highway.
