When I spoke to the person at the ‘No on 1’ table at the State Fair, he gave me a copy of Proposition 1. I actually read it. I found that the proposition gives the Commissioner of Fish and Game, who is appointed by the Governor, stricter guidelines on how to protect the fish and their habitat. Right now the only requirement to receive a permit is that the project provides for ‘proper protection’ which is open to interpretation and lobbying influences.
The concern that anyone can shut down your piped-in water to your house with any complaint is far-fetched. The ‘dark money’ pushing for the mine in Bristol Bay is trying to mislead the public. Nothing in the proposition suggests that can happen because of Proposition 1.
