I am Robin Davis and I am running for Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly, District 1.
I will bring to the Borough Assembly experienced, cooperative leadership that the people of District 1 need to represent them. I served the United States Air Force for 28 years, and for the last 3 years, the Borough, as a Capital Projects Manager. In the Air Force, I served as a Commander and as a Civil Engineer Officer. I have experience in leading people in peace time as well as war, in times of plenty as well as times of need.
My Priorities:
■ The best interests of the people of District 1.
— During this period of low oil prices, I promise to do my best to keep people employed and our local businesses viable.
■ Education – John F. Kennedy stated, “Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource.” While all of our resources are important, our most important resource on the Kenai Peninsula is our children and their education.
— I support sufficient funding for all education venues (Charter, Home, and Public school) to ensure comprehensive K-12 education to include vocational, sports, music, and arts programs.
■ Healthcare – In my opinion, the Affordable Care Act forces unaffordable health insurance upon people who can’t afford it.
— I fully support the KPB Health Care Task Force. Their purpose is to evaluate current resources and gaps, and to recommend a comprehensive, integrated, care delivery model which will focus on both individual and community health for the future of our borough.
— The assembly should support, monitor the progress, carefully evaluate the recommendations, and expect results from the Health Care Task Force!
■ The future – AK/LNG
— As Assembly Representative, I will encourage AK/LNG partners to maximize the use our local Contractors, Engineers, Architects, and support businesses.
— As Assembly Representative, I will work to help ensure that when the AK/LNG “Boom” is over, our borough is in better shape. For instance, we should have better schools, not more worn-out schools. We should have better roads, not more worn-out roads.
My Values:
■ To study the facts on an issue, listen to what the citizens are saying, and formulate options that are in the best interests of the Borough now and for the future. I believe in cooperation, compromise, making a decision and sticking to it!
■ Sound fiscal policies that include a balanced budget, a simplified tax system, performance audits and transparent dealings with public money.
■ Smaller but efficient localized Government.
■ Individual liberty and responsible protection of the environment.
■ Focus on the future while diligently optimizing our limited resources to maintain the present.
If elected, I will resign my position as a Borough employee to assume this leadership role on the Assembly and help lead the Kenai Peninsula into the future, while preserving the uniqueness of its past.
