Thanks to volunteers for MathCounts hut trip
Parents and students of the Kenai Middle School MathCounts program would like extend thank you’s for support of the recent winter math retreat at Manitoba Cabin near Summit Lake.
Alaska Huts has an amazing program which offered the historic facilities and comfy yurts for youth educational opportunities. Alex McLain with the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center went out of his way to greet us with lessons on snow conditions and avalanche warning signs. We will use those lessons to safely extend our affection for winter.
And because Math + Snow = Igloo, a huge thank you to Matt Dura of Nelson Engineering. Matt laid morning tracks on the mountain and then lead the construction of an 8-foot igloo (located 1/4 mile past the cabin for any brave souls who wish to bunk in it (it’s quite cozy under that snowy shell)). Thank you especially to coach David Thomas for his dedication to bringing mathematics and problem solving to life for young minds.
Good luck to the Kenai Middle School math team on Saturday, February 11th at the regional MathCounts Competition in Anchorage. We hope you bring home some Triangles for the trophy case!
