The visiting Anchorage Christian Schools boys basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 60-52 Northern Lights Conference victory over Soldotna on Wednesday. The Stars fall to 1-4 in the league and 2-10 overall.
The Stars stayed close throughout the contest, but could never get over the hump. SoHi trailed 17-13 after a quarter, 28-23 at halftime and 43-41 after three quarters.
Jakob Brown poured in 17 points to lead the Stars, while Andrew Pieh had 10, Cameron Laroque had nine, Eli Corbett had three, and Izaiah Gilbert, Lokeni Wong and Owen Buckbee had two.
For the Lions, Sean Malinis pumped in 19, while JD McGee had 14, Jeph English had 12, Nolan Warren had six, Darian Kwacho had four, Stryder Kronberger had three and Jaidhen Oyoa had two.
ACS girls 74, Soldotna 21
The Lions topped the Stars in Northern Lights Conference play as SoHi fell to 2-3 in the league and 4-7 overall.
Kaytlin McAnelly paced SoHi with eight points, while Tanner Inman had six, Katelyn Morrison had four, Josie Sheridan had two and Abygale Shaeffer had one.
Keelie Kronberger and Morgan Maldonado each had 16 for the Lions, while Sayvia Sellers and Jasmine Schaeffer each had 13. Also for ACS, Maliyah Alex and Chloe Auble had six, and Aiga Unutoa and Cadence Wood each had two.
Both ACS squads now stay in town for the Al Howard Shootout at Soldotna today through Saturday.
The schedule for today is Kenai girls vs. ACS at 3 p.m., Kenai boys vs. ACS at 4:30 p.m., Soldotna girls vs. Juneau-Douglas at 6 p.m. and Soldotna boys vs. Juneau-Douglas at 7:30 p.m.
Friday at the tourney, the ACS girls play Juneau at 3 p.m., the ACS boys play Juneau at 4:30 p.m., the Kenai girls play Soldotna at 6 p.m. and the Kenai boys play Soldotna at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, the Kenai girls play Juneau at noon, the Kenai boys play Juneau at 1:30 p.m., the SoHi girls play ACS at 3 p.m. and the SoHi boys play ACS at 4:30 p.m. Those games between SoHi and ACS will be conference games.
