The Kenai Peninsula played a role in the West Sound (Washington) Warriors winning the Cascade Cup on Friday.
The Cascade Cup is the postseason title for the Tier III Northern Pacific Hockey League. West Sound defeated the Bellingham (Washington) Blazers 3-0 in the title series, including a convincing 8-1 victory Friday. Bellingham had defeated West Sound for the title the past two years.
Michael Tilly, a junior from Kenai, as well as Homer graduates Carson Duggar and Tommy Bowe play for the Warriors. Tilly, the youngest player on the team, and Bowe are both defensemen, but both tallied a goal during the playoff run.
Warriors assistant Justin Adams also has ties to the Peninsula, with his family still living in Homer.
The Warriors qualified for the 2015 Tier III Junior Nationals, which will take place in Connecticut from March 27 to 30.
