Brackets released for conference volleyball tournaments

Kenai Peninsula volleyball teams will seek state berths Thursday, Friday and Saturday at conference tournaments.

Kenai Central, Nikiski, Seward and Homer will play in the Southcentral Conference tournament at Nikiski High School.

That tournament gets two berths to Class 3A state. There also is one at-large berth available at the 3A level.

Soldotna will play in the Northern Lights Conference tournament at Colony High School.

That tournament gets two automatic berths to the Class 4A state tournament. There also is an at-large berth available at the Class 4A level.

Kenai Central has won the last three Southcentral Conference tournaments and is the No. 1 seed out of the South.

The Kardinals open their tournament with Houston, No. 4 from the North, at 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Kenai, the two-time defending Class 3A state champ, is looking for a fifth straight berth to the Class 3A state tourney.

Nikiski, No. 2 from the South, plays Redington, No. 3 from the North, at 11:45 a.m. Thursday. The Bulldogs are looking to make state for the third straight year.

Seward, No. 3 from the South, plays Grace Christian, No. 2 from the North, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Seward is looking for its first state berth since 2021.

Homer, No. 4 from the South, plays Mountain City Christian Academy, No. 1 from the North, at 10 a.m. Thursday. Homer is looking for its first state berth since 2021.

In the NLC tourney, Soldotna is the No. 2 seed. The Stars play No. 3 Palmer at 5 p.m. Thursday. SoHi is looking for a second straight trip to state.
