The Kenai River Brown Bears host the Fairbanks Ice Dogs tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex in North American Hockey League play.
The Bears have 11 games left in the season. All but two will be at the sports complex. The only two road games are against the Anchorage Wolverines.
While Kenai River is out of the running for the playoffs and the Club 49 Cup, the Bears still have a chance to impact those races.
The Club 49 Cup is the battle between Alaska’s three NAHL clubs — the Bears, Wolverines and Ice Dogs.
Anchorage currently has 24 points, while the Ice Dogs have 23 and the Brown Bears have nine. With four games left against the Ice Dogs and two against the Wolverines, the Bears will have an impact on who wins the cup.
Kenai River is 1-7-0-0 against the Ice Dogs this season, and 3-6-1-0 against Anchorage.
The Ice Dogs are in a battle with the Springfield (Illinois) Jr. Blues for the top spot in the Midwest Division. Fairbanks has a 31-16-1-2 record for 65 points, while Springfield had 63 points, but has played two fewer games.
The Brown Bears are 12-32-3-2, which puts them in last place in the division.
