Bucs take down Oilers

The Anchorage Bucs defeated the Peninsula Oilers 14-6 on Wednesday in Alaska Baseball League play at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.

The Bucs, in third place, improve to 15-13 in league play, while the Oilers, in fourth place, fall to 10-17 and see a four-game winning streak snapped.

The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks are at 5-24 and chasing the Oilers for the fourth and final playoff spot. The Oilers stay on the road to face the Chinooks at 7 p.m. today.

The Anchorage Glacier Pilots are in first place in the league at 19-6, while the Mat-Su Miners are in second at 21-10.

After neither team scored for the first three innings, the Bucs broke out with five runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth.

The Oilers started climbing back into the game with a run in the sixth, a run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth inning.

In the eighth, Peninsula actually got the tying run to second base with two outs, but Noah Hennings struck out.

Anchorage then came back with six runs in the bottom of the eighth to ice the game.

James Shimashita and Casey Burnham each had a pair of hits for the Oilers, with Burnham also providing two RBIs.

Oilers pitchers Knolton Clark, Mose Hayes, Will O’Neil and Max Miller had trouble keeping the Bucs off the board.
