Chase Laker, Kate Cox win Salmon Run Series 1

Chase Laker and Kate Cox won the first Salmon Run Series race at Tsalteshi Trails on Wednesday. The race drew 61 racers overall.

Laker ran the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 22 seconds, to take the victory, while Cox was the top woman’s racer across the line at 25:47. That was 14th overall.

The series continues Wednesday, July 17, from the Skyview Middle School trailhead at Tsalteshi Trails. There also are races on July 24, July 31 and Aug. 7.

Check-in for the race is from 5:30 to 6 p.m. There is a 1-kilometer kids race at 6 p.m., with a $5 cash donation suggested.

The 5-kilometer race starts at 6:15 p.m. The cost is $15, with various discounts available.

Registration is available at kenaiwatershed.org, and also on the day of the race.

Proceeds go to Kenai Watershed Forum programs.
