Chugiak softball wins Bash on the Bay

The Chugiak softball team defeated Dimond 6-2 on Saturday to win the Bash on the Bay tournament in Homer.

Homer finished the tournament with Saturday losses to Colony by a 6-3 score and Service by a 14-1 score. The Mariners are 13-21 overall.

Kodiak 19, Soldotna 8

The host Bears were down 8-1 entering the fifth inning before erupting for 13 runs. The Stars are now 4-6 in the Northern Lights Conference and 8-11 overall.

Miah Mead pitched four innings and gave up 11 runs on six hits, while Isabelle Cruz gave up eight runs on five hits in an inning.

At the plate, Bailey Conner was 2 for 2 with two runs, Lexi Stormo was 2 for 2 and Kiara Forkner was 2 for 3.

Kodiak 15, Kenai 1

The visiting Kardinals are 1-9 in the Northern Lights Conference and 4-16 overall after the loss in four innings.

Kodiak jumped out to an 11-0 lead after one inning.

Lola McEwen gave up seven runs on two hits in one-third of an inning, while Libby Brinner gave up eight runs on nine hits in three innings and Maggie Grenier pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.

Kyana Griskevich was 2 for 2 for Kenai, while Kailey Stynsberg had the run and Shelby O’Brien had the RBI.
