Kenai Central graduate Travis Cooper opened competition at the IBU Youth/Junior World Biathlon Championships Thursday in Cheile Gradistei, Romania, with an 84th-place finish.
Cooper, a 2015 Kenai grad, missed nine total shots at the range — none at the first stop, three in the second, four in the third and two in the last — to finish the 15-kilometer course with a time of 56 minutes, 46.6 seconds, or 14:51 behind race winner Austrian Felix Leitner.
The two-day Tsalteshi Invite high school ski races have been canceled due to rapidly deteriorating weather conditions. Warmer weather moved in Monday afternoon and has melted an already thin snowpack down to impossible skiing conditions.
