Croix Evingson, a former member of the Kenai River Brown Bears, committed this week to play Division I hockey for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
Evingson, of Anchorage, now plays for the first-year Shreveport (Lousiana) Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League. He is the first Mudbugs player to get a Division I commit, and was the NAHL Defenseman of the Month for September.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound player was with the Brown Bears last season for 38 games, getting one goal and three assists. Late in the season, he moved to the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League before getting selected by the Mudbugs in the NAHL draft this year.
