Friday baseball: Kenai, Soldotna, Homer all collect victories

The Soldotna baseball team defeated Grace Christian 15-0 in two innings Friday at the Soldotna Little League fields in Northern Lights Conference play.

The Stars move to 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the league.

Matthew Schilling pitched two scoreless innings for the Stars, allowing just one hit.

Schilling scored three runs while Derrick Jones had two runs and four RBIs, Andrew Pieh had two runs, Wyatt Gagnon had two runs and three RBIs, Trenton Ohnemus had two runs and three RBIs, Brenden Theel had two hits and three RBIs, and Ari Miller was 2 for 2.

Kenai 16, Palmer 5

The Kardinals (6-2 overall) topped the Moose in five innings in nonconference action Friday at the Kenai Little League fields.

The game was tied at 3 after one, but Kenai led 8-4 after two, 8-5 after three, 10-5 after four and 16-15 after five.

Kaloni Beddow was 3 for 3 with four RBIs to lead the Kardinals. Daniel Steffensen scored two runs, Braden Smith scored two runs and Gabe Smith scored three runs.

Jacob Joanis went four innings, giving up five runs — four earned — on four hits while walking three and striking out eight. Gabe Smith finished up with a scoreless and hitless inning.

Homer 5, Kodiak 4; Homer 17, Kodiak 7

The host Mariners swept a doubleheader from the Bears on Friday in Northern Lights Conference play. Homer moves to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the league.

In the 5-4 game, the score was tied at 2 entering the seventh, with Kodiak scoring two in the top of the inning and the Mariners answering with three in the bottom.

Camden Wise went the distance for Homer, giving up four runs — one earned — on six hits.

CJ Burns was 2 for 3 with two runs for Homer, while Weston Marley was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

In the 17-7 game, which went five innings, Homer went up 9-2 in the second inning. After both teams scored a run in the third, the Mariners went up 17-6 after the fourth. Kodiak then scored one in the fifth.

Preston Stanislaw pitched all five for Homer, giving up seven runs — four earned — on eight hits.

Malachi Raymond went 3 for 3 with two runs and five RBIs to lead Homer.

Also for Homer, Burns scored two runs, while Oak Anderson scored twice, Clyde Clemens scored three times, Stanislaw scored three times and Willem Hakala was 2 for 3 with two runs.
