Friday hockey: Kardinals defeat Crimson Bears in overtime

The visiting Kenai Central hockey team defeated Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale 5-4 in overtime Friday in Northern Lights Conference play.

The Kardinals move to 5-2 in the league and 11-9 overall.

Just 1:18 into the eight-minute overtime, Logan Mese, assisted by Avery Martin, scored to win it.

The Crimson Bears took the lead in the first period on a goal by Dylan Sowa, who was on his way to a hat trick.

Kenai answered with three first-period goals to go up 3-1. Martin had two of those goals, while Sawyer Vann also scored on the power play.

Luke Bovitz scored for Juneau late in the period for a 3-2 game.

Mese had the only goal of the second period. Sowa scored early in the third period, then scored again with 10.6 seconds left to send the game to overtime.

Evyn Witt had 23 saves for Kenai, while Caleb Friend stopped 25 for the Crimson Bears.
