Friday hockey roundup: Soldotna takes down Colony

The visiting Soldotna hockey team evened its record at 9-9-2 with a 5-3 nonconference victory over Colony on Friday.

The Stars went down 1-0 on a goal by Jace Albers, but SoHi went up 2-1 in the first period when Peyton Williams and Noah Crabtree scored. Toryn Coffey had it even for Colony headed to the second period.

Albers put the Knights out front again midway through the second period, but Mason Bock and Crabtree had the Stars up 4-3 headed to the final frame.

With 10:15 to play, Daniel Heath scored an insurance goal for SoHi.

Brycen Clyde made 28 saves for the Stars, while Traeton Adams stopped 28 for the Knights.

The visiting Kardinals fell to 3-2 in the league and 9-9 overall by losing to Palmer on Friday in Northern Lights Conference play. The Moose are 3-0 against Kenai this season.

Elijah Von Gunten opened the scoring for Palmer, but Sawyer Vann tied it for Kenai. Von Gunten scored again, but this time Gavin Liles had the game even headed to the second period.

After a scoreless second frame, Vann put the Kardinals out front with 13:08 left in the game. Palmer would close with three goals by Zidane Dietz, Kaleb Von Gunten and a short-handed goal.

Evyn Witt made 26 saves for Kenai, while Kai Curl stopped 18 for Palmer.
