The Redington boys and Juneau-Douglas girls go into the final day of the Craig Jung Kenai River Challenge at Kenai Central with 2-0 records after the second day of the tourney Friday.

Also in the girls tournament, Kenai and Redington are 1-1 and Seward is 0-2. In the boys tournament, Kenai and Nikiski are 1-1, while Seward is 0-2.

The round-robin tournament concludes today with the Juneau girls against Redington at 11 a.m., the Nikiski boys vs. Redington at 12:30 p.m., the Kenai girls vs. Seward at 2 p.m. and the Kenai boys vs. Seward at 3:30 p.m.

The Kenai boys tallied a 52-41 victory over Nikiski on the strength of a 17-4 third quarter.

For the Kardinals, Wade James had 16 points, while Bridger Beck pitched in 10. Also for Kenai, Eli McCubbins had seven, Ky Calvert and Joseph Hamilton had six apiece, Roc Riggle had four and Luke Armstrong had three.

For the Bulldogs, Dillon Hanson led the way with 15 points, while Brady Bostic pumped in 13. Also for Nikiski, Charlie Chamberlain had nine, Isaiah Daniels had three and Seth Payne had one.

The Juneau-Douglas girls used the strength of a 19-6 fourth quarter to topple Kenai 48-36.

Trinity Jackson had 16 points, including seven in the fourth quarter, while Skylar Tuckwood had 10 points, including six in the fourth quarter. Also for the Crimson Bears, Mackenzie Nielads had seven, Rebekah Grube had six, Kiyara Miller had four, Ashley Laudert had three and Gabbi George-Frank had two.

For the Kardinals, Emma Beck poured in 24 points, but Juneau was able to keep her off the board in the fourth quarter. Erin Koziczkowski had four for Kenai, while Emilee Wilson and Amber Nash had three apiece and Logan Satathite added two.

The Redington boys notched a 35-33 victory over Seward, with the Seahawks falling behind 19-8 at halftime.

Wayde Bowman had 15 points for the Huskies, while Logan Seymore had seven, Trevor Bowman and Doyle Bond each had four, Cort Sandefur had three and Bryce Murdock had two.

For the Seahawks, Tommy Cronin led the way with 12 points while Bergen Davis had 11, Ozzy Deel had six, Kupono Albino had two and Nick Ambrosiani and Ben Ambrosiani had one apiece.

The Redington girls defeated Seward 44-33. For Redington, Lexi Seymore dumped in 18 points, while Destiny Simmons had 13. Also for the Huskies, Andi Robson had five points, while Adilyn Pitcher had four and Alize Crume and Delaney Reans had two apiece.

For Seward, Shelby Sieminski led the way with 19 points. Hannah Schilling pitched in seven, while Lena Jagielski had three, Wren Dougherty had two and Robin Cronin had two.

CIA Classic

The Soldotna JV girls and boys basketball teams moved to 2-0 on the second day of the Cook Inlet Academy Classic on Friday.

In the girls tournament, Ninilchik and Cook Inlet Academy are now 1-1, while Kenai JV is 0-2. In the boys tournament, Ninilchik and Cook Inlet Academy are 1-1, while Kenai JV is 0-2.

Today at the Classic, the Ninilchik girls play CIA at 11 a.m., the Ninilchik boys play CIA at 1 p.m., the Soldotna JV girls play Kenai JV at 3 p.m. and the Soldotna JV boys play Kenai JV at 5 p.m.

The Soldotna girls junior varsity defeated Cook Inlet Academy 46-25.

For the Stars, Katelyn Morrison had 15 points, while Kaitlyn McAnelly had nine, Morgan Lemm had eight, Mercedes Leadens had five, Annie Burns had four, Alex Lee had two, Zayra Poage had two and Tanner Inman had one.

For the Eagles, Hope Hillyer had 13 points, while Tatum Rozak had 12 points.

The Soldotna boys JV defeated Cook Inlet Academy 54-35 on the strength of a 23-8 fourth quarter.

Zac Buckbee and Blake Inger had 12 points apiece for the Stars, while Will Innaman and Andrew Piett each had nine. Also for the Stars, Derrick Jones had seven, Jace O’Reagan had five and Parker Rose had two.

For the Eagles, Ethan Boyd had 15 and James Boyd had 11. Ian McGarry, Abraham Henderson and Jeremy Dillingham each had three for Cook Inlet Academy.

The Ninilchik girls defeated Kenai JV 40-22.

Rian Ofstad pumped in 16 points to pace the Wolverines, while Zoia Fefelov had nine, Rebecca Okonek had seven, Autumn Calabrese had four and Riley Tucker had four.

For Kenai’s junior varsity, Sierra Hershberger led the way with 13 points while Avia Miller had five and Mycka Phillips and Grace Kahn had two points apiece.

The Ninilchik boys defeated Kenai JV 53-47, coming back from a 25-13 halftime deficit.

For the Wolverines, Cole Moore had 13 points, while Blake Lemons had 12 and Rowan Mahoney pitched in 11. Also for Ninilchik, Wyatt McCloskey had eight points, while Justin Trail had five and Cody Blossom added four.

For Kenai JV, Armands Leksejs had 12 points, while Zac Armstrong pitched in 10. Caleb Litke had seven, while Luke Armstrong had five, Ben Harris had four, Carnell Gump had three and Cole Langham had two.

Grace Christian Grizzly Classic

The Homer girls improved to 2-0 at the Grace Christian Grizzly Classic by defeating Tikigaq 55-41 on Friday, using a 19-8 fourth quarter.

Delilah Harris had 14 to lead the Mariners, while Kaylin Anderson and Sydney Shelby had 13 points apiece. Also for Homer, Mel Morris had eight, Sophie Ellison had five and Hannah Stonorov had two.

The Homer boys improved to 1-1 at the tournament by defeating Tikigaq 71-65. Carter Tennison and Peyton Edens each had 23 points to lead Homer, while Time Hatfield and Ryan Carroll had seven, Lucas Story and Braden Huffman had five and Nathan Overson had three. For Tikigaq, Joelian Lane had 26, while Clyde Frankson pitched in 22.

Today, the Homer girls finish the tournament by playing Grace at 1 p.m., while the Homer boys play Grace at 2:45 p.m.

Kenai boys, girls both placed third overall in the Kachemak Conference Wrestling Championships on Saturday.

SoHi hockey won the End of the Road tournament in Homer and the wrestling team gained 20 individual wins.
