The Soldotna hockey team notched a 10-3 victory over the Bartlett-East co-op team Friday in nonconference action at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
Jace Appelhans had four goals and four assists to lead the Stars (7-4 overall), while Boone Theiler had three goals and two assists.
Also scoring goals for the Stars were Andrew Arthur, Aiden Stinnett and Riley Cronin.
Arthur also had four assists for the Stars, while Gehret Medcoff had two assists and Peyton Williams and Kyler Howell added assists.
Curtis Siems had a pair of goals for the co-op, while Wyatt Rush added a goal and an assist. Andy Rush and Dylan Beals added assists.
Brycen Clyde made 32 saves for the Stars. For the co-op, Reece Morton had 24 saves on 30 shots, and Brayley Bill had five saves on nine shots.
Kodiak sweeps Homer
The host Kodiak hockey team notched a 5-2 victory over Homer on Friday and 3-2 victory on Saturday in Northern Lights Conference play.
The victories were the first conference victories in the history of Kodiak’s program. The Mariners fall to 2-7 overall and 0-5 in the league.
Friday, after a scoreless first period, Kodiak had three goals in the first five minutes of the second period.
Collin Gibbs scored on a John Paul Pogson assist, Ronan Hinman scored on a Noah Schrof assist and Schrof scored an unassisted power-play goal.
With 9:22 left in the second, Makary Reutov answered on an assist from River Henry.
But with 1:43 left in the second, the Bears went up 4-1 when Ejler Durand scored with help from Schrof and Hinman.
The Bears went up 5-1 in the third when Rowan Wyszkowski scored on a Schrof assist.
Homer’s Seamus Hatton then finished up the scoring with an unassisted goal.
Reace Brothers had 33 saves for the Mariners, while Garrett Wood stopped 12 for the Bears.
Saturday, Hatton had an unassisted goal just two minutes into the game, but it took Kodiak just 34 seconds to answer. Miles Grimes scored with help from Schrof and Kevin Foster.
The Mariners then had the lone goal of the second period as Berend Pearson lit the lamp on Reutov and Ethan Drake helpers.
Kodiak then scored twice in the first 3:08 of the third period and held on for the victory. Durand scored on a Hinman assist, and Pogson scored unassisted.
Simon Lonheim had 27 saves for Kodiak, while Blaise Banks stopped 44 for the Mariners.
