Friday: Soldotna baseball loses to Juneau, Sitka

The Soldotna baseball team lost 7-3 to Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale and 5-1 to Sitka on Friday at the first Sitka American Legion Post 13 Wolves Baseball Tournament.

The Stars fall to 0-3-1 at the tournament and on the young season.

Juneau grabbed a 6-1 lead after three innings in taking the victory.

Wyatt Gagnon gave up five runs — three earned — on five hits in 1 1-3 innings. Malakai BeDunnah gave up two runs — one earned — on five hits in the final three innings.

On offense, Jackson Koetitz was 1 for 2 with a run, Colby Sturman was 1 for 2 with a run, Matthew Schilling had a hit and two RBIs, Tucker Blough, Brenden Theel and Jack Harper had hits, and Jett Brophy had a run and Easton Hawkins had an RBI.

Against Sitka, SoHi lead 1-0 until the fourth inning, when the Wolves struck for five runs.

Sturman gave up two runs, while Samuel Graham gave up three.

Brett Hostetler had a hit and a run for SoHi, while Theel and Ari Miller added hits, and Schilling had an RBI.

SoHi concluded the tournament Saturday, April 5, by playing Juneau at 2 p.m. and Sitka at 6 p.m.
