Homer girls play to draw against Palmer

The Homer girls soccer squad officially opened their 2018 season with a 1-1 draw against Palmer today in Palmer.

Senior striker Sienna Carey scored the Mariners’ lone goal with an assist from Andie Sonnen. The two teams held a scrimmage Friday when referees were unavailable to officiate.

The contest was a nonconference game due to offseason changes that changed the structure of Alaska soccer. Homer now competes in the new Peninsula Conference while Palmer remained in the Northern Lights Conference.

The Mariners will host Soldotna on Tuesday in their conference opener.
