Homer girls take 3rd at Ketchikan tourney

The Homer girls basketball team finished third Thursday at the Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic in Ketchikan by edging Valdez 34-33.

The Mariners led 6-4 after the first quarter, 13-12 at halftime and 31-24 after the third quarter.

Sydney Shelby led the way for Homer with 11 points. Also for the Mariners, Delilah Harris had eight, Bethany Engebretsen, Hannah Stonorov and Mel Morris each had four, and Kaylin Anderson had three.

For the Buccaneers, Kylie Gilbert had 13, Carsyn Hinkle had nine, Kelsey Prax had four and Lucy Selanoff, Katarina Taylor and Lily Brown each had two.

In Wednesday’s semifinals, Homer lost 60-45 to Palmer. The Mariners were within 23-22 at halftime, but Palmer was winning 43-31 at the end of three quarters.

Alyssa Clark paced the Moose with 17 points, while Livia Solis had 13 points.

For the Mariners, Sydney Shelby poured in 19 points, while Delilah Harris pitched in 15. Also for Homer, Sophie Ellison had four, Kaylin Anderson had three and Hannah Stonorov and Mel Morris each had two.

Soldotna girls 39, Kodiak 28

The Stars picked up a Northern Lights Conference victory in Kodiak on Thursday by winning the second half 31-16.

Katelyn Morrison paced the Stars with 10 points, while Ellie Burns had nine, Alex Lee had seven, Tanner Inman had six, Kaitlyn McAnelly had four and Rhys Cannava had two.

For the Bears, Anastasia Solomon had nine, Avie Arevalo had eight, Marielle Mangrobang had six and Serenity Bushell had two.

Kodiak boys 41, Soldotna 33

The host Bears overcame a 15-8 deficit after the first quarter to topple the Stars in NLC action in Kodiak on Thursday. Kodiak moves to 7-0 overall.

Soldotna still led 19-18 at halftime, but Kodiak led 26-23 at the end of three periods.

Connor Case pumped in 14 points for the Bears, while Jackson Krug had 12, Frankie Marcelo had 10, Shawn Case had three and Mason Mullan had two.
