The Homer softball team opened its season Thursday at the Sitka High School Softball Tournament.
The Mariners lost to Sitka 10-0 and Thunder Mountain 16-2.
Homer continues play at the tournament Friday by facing Palmer, Ketchikan and Juneau-Douglas. Saturday, Homer faces Sitka, Thunder Mountain and North Pole.
Against Sitka on Thursday, the Wolves were able to wrap up the victory in 3.5 innings, scoring four runs in the first inning and six in the third inning.
The Mariners did not record a hit on offense. Becca Trowbridge pitched for Homer, walking 12 and giving up 10 earned runs on five hits in three innings. Trowbridge struck out three.
The Thursday game against Thunder Mountain went three innings.
Homer grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Falcons scored 14 in the first inning, one in the second inning and one in the third inning.
Alaiyah Brost had a hit, run and two RBIs for the Mariners, while Emily Owens had a hit and a run. Julie Guess also added a hit.
Keagan Niebuhr gave up two runs and didn’t record an out for Homer, while Brenna Cox gave up six runs in an inning and Trowbridge gave up a run in two-thirds of an inning.
