The visiting Soldotna girls and boys basketball teams swept Kenai Central on Friday in nonconference play.

The SoHi girls (8-12 overall) got revenge for an earlier loss to Kenai with a 43-41 overtime victory.

The Stars had to overcome 21 points from Emma Beck to get the victory. With 1:07 left in regulation, Beck tied the game at 36 with a pair of foul shots, then Beck put the Kards up 38-36 with 46 seconds left with a layup.

With 35 seconds left, Josie Sheridan drilled a pair of foul shots to knot it at 38. Kenai then missed an attempt to take the lead, and SoHi came down and missed on three shots to take the lead, as the game went to overtime.

Beck and Sheridan each had buckets early in the overtime. With 57 seconds left, Riley Sparks made 1 for 2 foul shots for Kenai for a 41-40 lead. With 30 seconds left, Tanner Inman had a layup to put SoHi up 42-41.

Kenai then turned the ball over, but Soldotna missed a shot, so the Kards got the ball back and called timeout with 16 seconds. Kenai missed its shot at the game-winner, then Sheridan made a free throw with .8 seconds left to account for the final score.

A big factor in the close game was free throws. SoHi was 12 of 23 from the line, while the Kardinals were 14 of 33.

Ellie Burns had 15 to pace the Stars, while Katelyn Morrison and Sheridan pitched in 10. Also for SoHi, Jolie Widaman had four, and Kaitlyn McAnelly and Tanner Inman had two apiece.

For the Kards, Sparks and Amber Nash had four, Malerie Nunn and Logan Satathite had three, and Shania McCanna, Emilee Wilson and Denali Bernard had two.

The Soldotna boys topped Kenai 55-53 to move to 2-0 this season against the Kards and 8-15 overall.

The Stars led 23-20 at the half, then stretched the lead all the way to 46-26 after three quarters. Kenai then won the final quarter 27-10.

Ethan Sewell had 19 points to pace the Stars, while Nate Johnson had 10, Maleda Denbrock and Jakob Brown had eight, Will Inman had six, and Zac Buckbee and Brock Wilson had two.

Jakob Kvasnikoff pumped in 23 points for the Kards, while Eli McCubbins had 15, Wade James had nine, Joe Hamilton had four and Bridger Beck had two.

Grace Christian girls 53, Kenai 35

The visiting Grizzlies won in the Peninsula Conference on Saturday to drop the Kardinals to 5-3 in the league and 14-8 overall.

Kenai trailed 12-8 after a quarter, 21-19 at the half and 38-30 after three quarters.

Sophie Lentfer poured in 25 for Grace, while Ella Boerger pitched in 18.

For Kenai, Emma Beck had 15, Logan Satathite had 13 and Erin Koziczkowski had seven.

Grace Christian boys 62, Kenai 34

The visiting Grizzlies won a Peninsula Conference game Saturday to drop the Kardinals to 3-5 in the league and 6-15 overall.

Leading the way for Grace were Sloan Lentfer with 16, Luke Lentfer with 15 and Tyler Binder with 10.

For Kenai, Wade James pumped in 10, Bridger Beck had nine, Joe Hamilton, Griff Gray and Luke Armstrong had three, and Eli McCubbins, Sam Baisden and Jakob Kvasnikoff had two.

Seward girls 23, Homer 22

The host Seahawks came out on top of a tense Peninsula Conference contest Saturday. Seward moves to 4-4 in the league and 8-10 overall, while Homer is 3-4 and 8-9.

Homer trailed 6-3 after a quarter, 8-7 at the half and 17-12 after three quarters.

Robin Cronin and Shelby Sieminski had eight for Seward, while Lena Jagielski had five and Hannah Schilling added two.

For Homer, Kaylin Anderson and Bethany Engebretsen had nine, while Delilah Harris and Sydney Shelby each had two.

Homer boys 49, Seward 34

The visiting Mariners won in the Peninsula Conference on Saturday to move to 5-2 in the league and 11-8 overall, while Seward dropped to 2-6 and 5-13.

Homer led 8-5 after a quarter, 26-15 at the half and 39-28 after three quarters.

Carter Tennison poured in 23 for Homer, while Noah Irons had 11, Braden Huffman had six, Peyton Edens had four, Ryan Carroll had three and Tim Hatfield had two.

For Seward, Tommy Cronin had 12, Ozzy Deal had eight, Bergen Davis had six, and Nick Ambrosiani and Ben Ambrosiani each had four.

CIA boys 51, Holy Rosary 46

The host Eagles improved to 3-1 in the league and 8-9 overall with the Saturday victory.

Cook Inlet Academy had a 10-7 lead after a quarter, but Holy Rosary came back to tie the game at the half and take a 37-30 lead headed to the final eight minutes. CIA won the final quarter 21-9.

Abraham Henderson had 24 points for the Eagles, while Jeremy Dillingham had nine, Austin Sorhus had eight, Nehimiah Barnes had six, and Brady Baeten and James Boyd each had two.

Damien Fournier led Holy Rosary with 14, while Shawn Cooley had 12 and Miles Minnery had 11.

Homer girls 34, Nikiski 24

The host Mariners topped the Bulldogs on Friday in Peninsula Conference play.

Homer is 2-0 against Nikiski, 3-3 in the league and 8-8 overall. The Bulldogs are 0-7 and 1-19.

Homer led 6-4 after the first quarter, 13-10 at the half and 20-18 after three quarters.

Sophie Ellison paced the Mariners with 12 points, while Kaylin Anderson had eight, Sydney Shelby had seven, Delilah Harris had four, Bethany Engebretsen had two and Mel Morris had one.

For the Bulldogs, Kinlee Jeffreys had seven, Shelby Burman had six, Savanna Stock had five, Maggie Grenier had four and Avery White had two.

Homer boys 65, Nikiski 50

Carter Tennison had 26 points to lead the host Mariners to a Peninsula Conference victory Friday.

Homer is 4-2 in the league and 10-8 overall, while Nikiski falls to 2-5 and 7-14.

When Homer lost 54-53 to Nikiski on Jan. 25, Tennison was limited by foul trouble. This time he played throughout and made the difference.

Noah Irons added 10 for Homer, while Tim Hatfield had eight, Peyton Edens and Braden Huffman had seven, Ryan Carroll had six and Nathan Overson had two.

For Nikiski, Brady Bostic had 11, Braeden Porter had nine, Drew Handley had eight, Dillon Hanson and Charlie Chamberlain had seven, Simon Grenier had six and Isaiah Daniels had two.

Grace Christian girls 65, Seward 29

The visiting Grizzlies posted a Peninsula Conference victory Friday to drop the Seahawks to 3-4 in the league and 7-10 overall.

Ella Boerger pumped in 25 for the Grizzlies, while Sophie Lentfer had 19.

For the Seahawks, Lena Jagielski and Shelby Sieminski each had eight, Hannah Schilling had six, Hailey Ingalls had five and Wren Dougherty had two.

Grace Christian boys 62, Seward 23

The visiting Grizzlies cruised to a Peninsula Conference victory Friday. Seward falls to 2-5 and 5-12.

In double figures for Grace were Caden Nanninga with 17, Luke Lentfer with 12 and Tyler Binder with 10.

For Seward, Tommy Cronin had 10, Nick Ambrosiani had five, Ben Ambrosiani had three, Bergen Davis and Ozzy Deal had two, and Kupono Albino had one.

Ninilchik boys 59, Unalaska 44

The visiting Wolverines topped the Raiders in nonconference play Friday. Ninilchik moved to 18-0.

The Wolverines led 17-12 after the first quarter, 28-22 at the half and 39-31 headed to the final quarter.

Jaylin Scott paced Ninilchik with 21 points, while Lukah Kalugin had 16, Landon Colburn had 11, Justin Trail had six and Cole Moore had five.

Leading the way for Unalaska were Stephen Nguyen with 15 and Henvin Reodil with 12.
