Despite posting two personal-best times, Seward senior Lydia Jacoby did not qualify for the World Championships at the U.S. World Championship Trials from April 26 to 30 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Jacoby’s best shot at making Worlds was finishing in the top two of the 100 breaststroke, the event in which she won a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics in July 2021. Jacoby won that Olympics race in 1 minute, 4.95 seconds.
At the trials, she swam 1:06.21 for fourth place, but that was not enough for a Worlds berth due to the depth of talent in that race in the United States right now. Annie Lazor got the last berth by finishing second in 1:06.12.
Jacoby also swam personal bests in the 50 breaststroke, finishing third in 30.35, and in the 200 breaststroke, finishing fifth in 2:26.60.
