The Kenai Central baseball team fell behind 7-0 in dropping its opener 8-2 in Kodiak on Thursday in Southcentral Conference action.
Braden Smith got the start for the Kardinals and gave up four earned runs on six hits in four innings pitched. Smith walked three and struck out five. Gabe Joanis finished by allowing four runs — three earned — on three hits in two innings. Joanis walked one and struck out three.
The Kardinals had five hits. Owen Whicker and Jacob Joanis had the runs, while Charlie Chamberlain and Joe Sandahl had the RBIs.
Kenai stays in Kodiak for a noon game today.
