The Kenai Central baseball team defeated Homer 9-3 on Tuesday at the Kenai Little League fields.
The Kardinals move to 1-1 in the Southcentral Conference and 2-3 overall, while Homer drops to 0-1 and 1-3.
Braden Smith picked up the win for the Kardinals, going five scoreless innings while giving up three hits, walking none and striking out 10.
Johnny Brinner pitched the last two innings, giving up three runs on three hits while walking four and striking out two.
For Homer, Malachi Raymond pitched 1 2-3 innings and gave up four runs on three hits, Camden Wise pitched 3 1-3 innings and gave up three runs — two earned — on seven hits, and Mylan Johnson pitched an inning and gave up a run on two hits.
For the Kardinals, Brinner had two hits, Brady Bostic had two hits and two RBIs, Braden Smith had two RBIs and Simon Grenier had two hits and three runs.
For Homer, Zach Marley was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
