Kenai Central senior Riana Boonstra ran the five-kilometer cross-country course at Eagle River High School in 19 minutes, 49 seconds, to win the women’s race at the third annual Maddy’s Run, as reported in the Chugiak-Eagle River Star. Adrianna Proffitt, a junior a Chugiak, finished second at 19:59.1.

Eagle River teen Nick Carl ran 16:46.9 to win the men’s race, while Anchorage marathon Jerry Ross was right behind at 16:55.2.

The race is in honor of Eagle River’s Maddy Brandl, who was 11 when she died of cancer in 2016. This year’s race raised funds for Zakk Peryea, 4, of Fairbanks and Jazee’ Holloway, 7, of Anchorage.
