The Kenai Central hockey team finished off a two-game nonconference sweep of Colony with a 3-1 victory Friday at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility in Kenai.
The Division II Kardinals have come out on fire after the holiday break, moving to 6-10-0 overall, while the Division I Knights fall to 8-5-0 overall. Colony has a chance to get on the right track when it plays Soldotna at 5 p.m. today at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
Avery Martin, assisted by Logan Mese, put the Kardinals up with the lone goal of the first period.
After a scoreless second period, Mese struck with 6:19 to play with help from Caden Warren. Martin then scored unassisted for a 3-0 lead with 4:43 left.
With 2:43 to play, Carsten Lantto broke up the shutout on an assist from Isaac McKenzie.
Evyn Witt had 20 saves for the Kardinals, while Malachi Mukaabya and Liam VanBuskirk combined to stop 26 for the Knights.
