Kenai, Nikiski squads take road losses

The Kenai Central girls and boys basketball teams were swept at Chugiak on Thursday in nonconference action.

The Kardinals girls took a tough 34-32 loss at the buzzer to fall to 6-3 overall, while the Kenai boys lost 55-39 to fall to 3-6 overall.

In the girls game, the teams were tied after the first quarter, with Chugiak taking a 16-12 lead into halftime and a 30-26 lead after three quarters.

Octavia Knox and Halie Fraize paced the Mustangs with 10 points apiece, while Skylar Alexander had six, Shannon Brion had five and Shayvon Williams had three.

For the Kardinals, Emma Beck poured in 20 points. Amber Nash had four, while Chloe Goldsby, Riley Sparks, Logan Satathite and Denali Bernard all had two.

Whaler Invitational

The Nikiski girls and boys opened with losses at the Whaler Invitational in Barrow.

The Nikiski girls took a 50-16 loss to Colony to fall to 0-7 overall. Rylee Ellis paced the Bulldogs with five points, while Maggie Grenier had four, Kinlee Jeffreys had three, and Savanna Stock and Emma Weeks each had two.

The Nikiski boys took a 68-31 loss to West Valley to fall to 5-6 overall. West Valley took a 39-15 lead at halftime.

Leading scorers for West Valley were Stewart Erhart with 21, Jamari Sims with 14, Koltin Thompson with 13, Eliyah Dominique with five and Leyton Nield with five.

For Nikiski, Charlie Chamberlain had 15, Brady Bostic had 10, Drew Handley had four and Dillon Hanson added two.

Today, the Nikiski girls play Monroe Catholic at 3 p.m., while the Nikiski boys play Thunder Mountain at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, the Nikiski girls play Barrow at 4 p.m., while the Nikiski girls play Barrow at 5:30 p.m.
