Kenai, Nikiski tie for 5th at West Spiketacular

The Nikiski and Kenai Central volleyball teams led the Kenai Peninsula by tying for fifth in the Gold Bracket at the West Spiketacular on Friday and Saturday in Anchorage.

Nikiski lost in the first round to Chugiak, while Kenai lost in the first round to Wasilla. Dimond won the Gold Bracket, while Wasilla was second, and Chugiak and South tied for third.

In the Silver Bracket, Soldotna tied for third, while Homer tied for fifth. The Stars defeated Sitka before losing to West, while the Mariners lost to Colony. Palmer won the Silver Bracket, while West was second.

In the Bronze Bracket, Seward lost in the final to Eagle River. The Seahawks had defeated Barrow to make it to the final.

All-tournament players from the peninsula were Rebecca Trowbridge from Homer, Stella Selanoff for Kenai, Ashlynne Playle for Nikiski, Mckinley Williams for Seward and Morgan Simac for Soldotna.

Pool play on Friday and Saturday was used to seed the brackets.

Kenai went 9-3 in Pool A, splitting with Seward with a 25-13 win and 22-25 loss, splitting with Dimond with a 25-19 win and 25-18 loss, defeating Palmer 25-20, 25-19, splitting with Wasilla with a 25-18 loss and a 25-9 win, defeating Eagle River 25-15, 25-10, and defeating Bartlett 25-10, 25-11.

Nikiski finished 8-4 in Pool B, defeating Juneau-Douglas: Yaada.at Kale 25-10, 25-19, splitting with Soldotna with a 25-20 win and 25-23 loss, defeating West 25-19, 25-17, splitting with South with a 25-22 win and 25-16 loss, losing to Service 26-24, 25-20, and defeating Utqiagvik 25-14, 25-14.

Soldotna finished 5-7 in Pool B, losing to Service 25-20, 25-20, splitting with Nikiski, defeating Juneau 25-14, 25-12, losing to South 25-14, 26-24, splitting with West with a 29-27 loss and 25-15 win, and splitting with Utqiagvik with a 26-24 loss and 25-18 win.

Homer was 4-8 in Pool C, defeating Kodiak 25-21, 26-24, splitting with West Valley with a 25-23 win and 25-17 loss, splitting with Colony with a 25-19 loss and 25-17 win, losing to Chugiak 25-14, 25-14, losing to Sitka 25-23, 25-22, and losing to East 25-19, 25-18.

Seward was 2-10 in Pool A, splitting with Kenai, losing to Dimond 25-22, 25-15, splitting with Bartlett with a 25-15 loss and 25-23 win, losing to Palmer 26-24, 25-19, losing to Eagle River 25-23, 25-14, and losing to Wasilla 25-22, 25-13.
