The Kenai Central volleyball team led the Kenai Peninsula by tying for fifth in the Gold Bracket at the West Spiketacular in Anchorage on Saturday.
Kenai got into the Gold Bracket by finishing third Saturday in Pool C with an 8-4 record. Saturday, the Kardinals lost to West 25-22 and 22-18, defeated Nikiski 25-16 and 27-25, and defeated Barrow 25-17 and 25-16. Kenai then lost to Colony 2-0 in the first round of the Gold Bracket. The Kardinals, who got Emma Beck on the all-tournament team, were able to top South 2-1 in a consolation match.
Soldotna tied for third in the Silver Bracket. The Stars took fifth in Pool A with a 5-7 record. Saturday, SoHi defeated Grace Christian 25-13 and 25-9, and split with Chugiak with a 25-22 loss and 25-18 win. In the Silver Bracket, Soldotna, which was represented on the all-tournament team by Nicole Dickinson, defeated Barrow 2-0 before losing to Wasilla 2-1.
Homer finished tied for fifth in the Silver Bracket. The Mariners finished fifth in Pool B with a 5-7 record. Saturday, Homer lost to Colony 25-19 and 24-23, defeated West Valley 25-15 and 25-19, and split with Palmer with a 25-14 loss and 25-22 win. In the Silver Bracket, Kodiak topped Homer 2-0.
Seward tied for second in the Bronze Bracket. The Seahawks were seventh in Pool A with a 3-9 record. Saturday, Seward lost to Wasilla 25-12 and 25-17, and lost to Kodiak 25-21 and 25-12. In the Bronze Bracket, the Seahawks, who were represented on the all-tournament team by Jordan Hartman, defeated West Valley 2-0 before falling to East.
Nikiski tied for third in the Bronze Bracket. The Bulldogs finished seventh in Pool C with a 2-10 record. Saturday, the Bulldogs were swept by Kenai and lost to Thunder Mountain 25-13 and 25-15. Nikiski then lost 2-0 to East in the Bronze Bracket.
