Kenai’s Travis Cooper raced to a third-place finish Sunday at the U.S. Biathlon National Championships in Jericho, Vermont.
Representing the National Guard Biathlon team, Cooper finished the five-kilometer course in 15 minutes, 15.1 seconds, good for third place, 27.4 seconds behind race winner Sean Doherty and just 1.4 seconds behind runner-up Cody Johnson. The 2018 Kenai Central grad missed three targets over the four rounds of shooting, which consisted of two prone rounds and two standing rounds, but it was enough to secure a podium finish in the 17-man field.
