Local esports teams landed a slew of key victories in the sixth week of the Fall esports season. Kenai Peninsula teams from Kenai, Nikiski and Soldotna saw seven wins across three games. Only two weeks are left in the regular season. The playoffs start after Thanksgiving.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Kenai’s team 1, Kaizen Fuller, Eli Castro and Blake Gillis, swept fourth-ranked Kodiak High School on Wednesday. The Kardinals sit 5-1 and are second in the state behind only Lathrop High School.
Right behind Kenai is Nikiski Middle-High School, which is third in the state and also at 5-1 after Lincoln and Levi Kimbell and Braden Brigham took a 3-2 victory over seventh-ranked Kenai 2.
Kenai 3, Alex Collet, Raymond Wilkie and Boyd Lehmberg, bested Thunder Mountain High School 3-1 on Wednesday to climb to 4-2 and eighth in the state.
Soldotna High School 1’s Lee Downing and Wyatt and Jedidiah Earl took a 3-2 win over Bethel Regional High School 2. They’re 3-3 and 18th in the state.
Soldotna High School 2, Jax Nash, Aldarenee Lipps and Graehm LeFevre, fell 3-1 to Mt. Edgecumbe High School. The Stars are 3-3 and 14th in the state.
Rocket League
California’s Roseland Collegiate Prep swept Soldotna High School’s LeFevre, Nash and Aanson Clark on Monday in match rescheduled from last week. The Stars returned on Thursday to top Hawaii’s Waimea High School 3-2. The Stars are 4-2 and ninth in the California Region.
Kenai was swept by Canada’s Rutland Senior Secondary School 2. They fall to 1-5 and 26th in the region.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Soldotna swept St. Andrew’s Schools — the Priory on Thursday to climb 5-1 and third in the Coastal Region.
President William McKinley High School swept Kenai. The Kardinals are 4-2 and fourth in the region.
Nikiski swept Kamehameha Schools Maui High School to rise to 4-2 and seventh in the region.
