A group of local swimmers from Top of the World Swimming, a masters program for adult athletes, traveled last week to Irvine, California, where they will compete in the United States Masters Spring Nationals Thursday through Sunday.
From the Central Kenai Peninsula, seven swimmers are set to compete, joining nine others from Alaska and 2,500 from the country, according to a release from the team. Representing Kenai and Soldotna are Kendra Ashwell, Carolann Barum, Johna Beech, Angie Brennan, Danny McIntosh, Lucas Petersen and Michelle Turinsky.
According to the release, the competition comes after the seven local athletes have spent eight months training, and together they will participate in 30 events.
Top of the World Swimming practices at Kenai Central High School outside of the summer months, and also runs adult learn-to-swim courses.
