The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 3-1 on Monday in Alaska Baseball League play at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak.
The Oilers improved the season-best winning streak to four by orchestrating a two-out, two-run rally in the top of the ninth to snap a 1-all tie.
This was Game 3 of an 11-game road trip that’s taking place in 10 days. Peninsula travels to Anchorage’s Mulcahy Stadium for a 6 p.m. game with the Anchorage Glacier Pilots on Tuesday.
The Anchorage Bucs lead the league at 15-11, while the Mat-Su Miners are a game back at 13-11, the Glacier Pilots are 1.5 games back at 12-11, and the Chinooks (10-14) and Oilers (9-13) are four games back.
Two were down in the top of the ninth when the Oilers got to work on Aaron Plotkin. Theo Forshey walked, Leighton Helfrick singled to left and Brett Grupe singled to shortstop to load the bases.
Michael Rodda then singled up the middle to score Forshey and Helfrick.
Ryne Palmer and Drew Dickson were able to keep the Chinooks bats under control.
Palmer worked the first six innings, giving up a run on three hits while walking three and striking out eight. Dickson pitched the last three innings for the win, giving up no runs on four hits while walking one and striking out five.
Helfrick finished 2 for 4 with two runs for the Oilers, while Grupe also was 2 for 4.
