Monday: Oilers start road trip by falling to Bucs

The Anchorage Bucs defeated the Peninsula Oilers 7-1 on Monday in Alaska Baseball League play at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.

Coming off a 7-3 homestand, which included beating the Bucs 3-2 in a series, the Oilers started an eight-game road trip by committing four errors and collecting five hits.

The Bucs remained perched atop the ABL standings at 12-5, while the Mat-Su Miners are 9-8, the Oilers are 8-7, the Anchorage Glacier Pilots are 8-12 and the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks are 5-10.

Peninsula stays at Mulcahy Stadium to face the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday.

The Bucs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before the Oilers cut it to 2-1 in the second.

Anchorage took control of the game with four runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth.

Eddie Leon went the first 4 2-3 innings for the Oilers, yielding six runs — five earned — on six hits while walking one and striking out one.

Colby Reynolds came on and pitched 2 1-3 innings, giving up a run on a hit while walking three. Braden Smith pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Zan Rose went the first six innings for the Bucs, allowing an unearned run. Rose walked four, but the Oilers couldn’t make him pay. Rose gave up three hits and struck out four.

Elijah Drew, Adam Enyart and Andrew Rudd then had scoreless innings for the Bucs.

Cole Dawson was 2 for 4 for the Oilers, while Ty Thomas had the run and Bryce Burkey had the RBI.

For the Bucs, Cole Carlon was 2 for 4 with two runs, Tommy Eisenstat was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and leadoff batter Will Burns scored twice.
