Rachel Thompson, a 2015 graduate of Nikiski High School, earned her second Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week honor on Tuesday.
Thompson, a redshirt junior, was in goal this past week as Washington State defeated Cal 4-2 and drew 1-1 with No. 1 Stanford after two overtimes.
Against the top-ranked Cardinal, Thompson had nine saves in net, tying a career high. In just the second minute, Stanford had a two-woman breakaway but Thompson was able to stop it. Plays like that helped the Cougars get their first points against a No. 1-ranked team after not getting any points in the previous eight attempts. Stanford was held to just one point in the standings in conference play for the first time in two seasons. Against Cal, Thompson had 10 saves in getting her sixth career victory.
