The Nikolaevsk coed volleyball squad lost 3-2 to Gustavus in the third-place game of the Mixed Six State Championships on Saturday at Dimond High School.
Gustavus, a tiny community in Southeast Alaska, won the opening set 25-23, but the Warriors came back to win the next two sets 25-21 and 25-20, but dropped the fourth set 25-22. In the winner-take-all fifth set, Gustavus prevailed 15-5.
On Friday, Nikolaevsk defeated Kodiak ESSS 3-0 in the quarterfinals, winning with scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-14. Later in the day, the Warriors lost 3-1 to Unalakleet, losing with scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 23-25.
