After making her collegiate debut Friday with a victory in the season-opening Dual meet in San Francisco, former Kenai Central runner Allie Ostrander became the first freshman on the Boise State University women’s cross-country team to garner the Mountain West Women’s Cross-Country Athlete of the Week award.
The 2015 Kenai graduate won the women’s six-kilometer race in 20 minutes, 44.4 seconds, almost 14 seconds ahead of Broncos teammate Minttu Hukka, to help her squad to the team title. Ostrander is only the 14th freshman in Mountain West women’s cross-country history to earn the accolade, and the first Boise State female runner to do so in their first year.
Ostrander is scheduled to compete this Saturday for Team USA in the World Mountain Running Junior Championships in Snowdonia, North Wales.
