Allie Ostrander, a 2015 graduate of Kenai Central, made her return to the track Saturday at the Portland Track Festival in Oregon.
Ostrander, 25, finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15 minutes, 26.5 seconds. The win went to Weini Kelati in 14:57.07. Ostrander was about eight seconds behind her personal best in the outdoor 5,000.
The last time Ostrander raced on the track was June 2021, when she took eighth in the steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic trials. Ostrander is a three-time NCAA Division I champion in the steeplechase.
Ostrander made her return to racing June 4 by winning the Freihofer’s Run for Women 5K in Albany, New York. The event is a road race.
After announcing in June 2021 in an online video that she was undergoing treatment for an eating disorder, Ostrander announced on Instagram in December 2021 that she was ending her contract with Brooks Running and taking a step back from professional running.
After her victory in Albany, Ostrander told the Albany Times Union she had been training for three months. She posts regular videos about her training and racing on her YouTube channel.
