Allie Ostrander, a 2015 graduate of Kenai Central High School and current pro runner living in Boulder, Colorado, finished fourth in the Mesa Half Marathon on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Arizona.
According to Alaska Sports Report, Ostrander broke the Alaska record for the half marathon with her time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 10 seconds. This was Ostrander’s debut at the distance.
The Alaska Sports Report says Anchorage’s Chris Clark had the previous record with her time of 1:15:27 in 2000.
Lauren Gregory won the Mesa Half Marathon at 1:09:14, with a pace of 5:16 a mile. Ostrander was moving along at 5:25 per mile.
Taylor Deal, a 2012 graduate of Kenai Central, also set a personal best in the race by running 1:18:53, an average of 6:01 per mile. Deal was the 22nd women’s runner across the line.
